Collection: Gil Yaron
Gil Yaron was born in Israel in 1966 and picked up his first guitar at the age of 12. This was a magical moment that lasted over 30 years. Gil Yaron was born in Israel in 1966 and picked up his first guitar at the age of 12. This was a magical moment that lasted over 30 years. Gil is an active musician, creating his own music, doing lead vocals and playing bass. His love and lust for guitars however goes beyond playing. He's been modifying and repairing them for over 20 years and most of his first day jobs involved guitar repair and sales. In the '90s Gil moved to Los Angeles, CA which was guitar heaven for him (being an Israeli guy landing directly in the center of the music industry scene). This is where he got deep into the vintage guitar market and had a chance to learn the instruments inside out by actually working on them while establishing his reputation as an expert vintage repair guy. Very quickly the repair jobs developed into partial builds and restoration work. He's been building guitars and basses for over 10 years but a few years ago he decided to investigate the pre-CBS Fender manufacturing process and explore the myth. It took years to gather all the information, photos, instruments and original paper work he needed in order to accurately reproduce those gems. In 2007 he was ready for the task; he made the plans and started putting together a very unique shop that was based on the original tools, jigs and building schedule of the Fender golden era.
The Mission - Attention To Details
The mission as Gil sees it is to be the antithesis of the modern instrument building entity. It's not a secret that most of the manufacturing processes of our time are driven by big companies with a single task in mind - making money... Nothing wrong with that of course, but when the decision makers in big guitar manufacturing companies are not guitar players and never experienced the difference between a '50s vintage guitar and a mass produced cheapo... this is exactly how you get most of the off the shelf guitars out there.
Gil tries to use the absolute best materials, tools and skills combined into a long process with super high attention to detail. It starts with his unique 'tuning forks' wood selection method and ends with a massive final setup to ensure the best possible quality and playability.
Bottom line: reproducing the old guitars at their best to the last detail without cutting corners!
