Due to Dean Gordon's great skill, luck and vision you can now not only own a masterbuilt Tele style guitar by one of the best luthiers alive today but also a remarkable piece of history made using wood as precious, resonant and spirited as the century it came from. Welcome to the supremely bespoke Chelsea Hotelecaster.

Since 1884, Hotel Chelsea has stood as one of New York City's most iconic buildings, located in the heart of Chelsea on 23rd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. What makes this building so historic are the many legendary and creative individuals that resided in the hotel throughout its years such as Jimi Hendrix, Andy Warhol, Bob Dylan, Mark Twain, Jeff Beck, Stanley Kubrick, Leonard Cohen, and so many more.

In 2011, the hotel began renovations to bring the building back to its former glory as a luxury accommodation. During the renovation, Dean Gordon, who has spent many years as head repair technician and luthier at the hotel's resident guitar shop Chelsea Guitars was able to rescue a limited amount of incredible Civil War era pine wood that was being discarded. This wood is so remarkably valuable, with the deep resonances of history intact, that Dean felt he had been handed something very special indeed. So he set out to create a limited number of unique guitars coined as Chelsea Hotelecasters using the 135 year-old rescued Civil War era Chelsea pine in their construction.

It has long been considered that aged wood brings valuable attributes to musical instrument construction. Wood that is as old as that discarded from the Hotel Chelsea renovations has had a huge amount of time to develop those precious characteristics of resonance and stability common to aged wood. And make no mistake - this isn't "pine wood" like you're used to seeing at Home Depot. This is the kind of very hard old-growth heartwood pine that was commonly used in construction back in the 1800s but which is virtually unheard of nowadays. This wood is exceedingly rare, incredibly sonorous, highly stable, full of character and worlds away from even the best hardwoods available today. In short, if you own a guitar made from wood like this you have something that simply can't be found anywhere else.

"These guitars have a special connection to me - they are made of wood from the building I have been working in for nearly a decade and the building itself has such a rich history. I hope anyone who picks one of these guitars up understands they own a piece of New York City and that's really damn cool." – Dean Gordon

These teles have thin shellac/nitro finish on the body and nitro/oil/wax finish on the neck. The body wood is the Chelsea Hotel pine while the necks are contemporary maple. The weight ranges from light to average.

People can own a piece of history with these. Who knows whose room the wood is from - Bowie's, Hendrix's, Dylan's, Stanley Kubrick's - the possibilities are nearly endless.
