The Colorsound Power Boost was one of the very first overdrive pedals to hit the market. It offered a wide range of tones and soon became a favourite among guitarists like Jeff Beck and David Gilmour. Both using it to create their signature sounds in the early '70s. Think Shine on You Crazy Diamond. This is the pedal.
The 'Powerdriver 18', hand wired by DevTech Audio, is an exact faithful recreation of the Power Boost circuit. The pedal features 2 upgrades however - using a 9 volt power input and internally doubling to 18 volts (instead of requiring 2 9 volt batteries like the original), and a master volume control to tame the huge volume boost if desired. Use it with Drive set low for a boost, or to drive a Big Muff pedal like Gilmour did to create his epic tone. Or turn the drive up for a beautiful vintage overdrive, even reaching into fuzz territory!
Using the rare Mullard/Philips tropical fish capacitors made in the 1970s, and equally rare Fairchild BC184L transistors also made in the 1970s. These components are limited and once supply has been exhausted, we will have to move to more recently made options.
All quality components used, such as Vishay, Switchcraft, Mullard/Philips, Fairchild. Carbon composition/film resistors, NOS '70s stock Mullard/Philips tropical fish capacitors and NOS Fairchild BC184L transistors used.
Includes internal trim for LED brightness, and true bypass.
Enclosure is a pedalboard friendly 125B, powder coated and UV printed for durability.
Note: requires external 9 volt power as there is no room inside enclosure for a battery.
