The Alpine B110 is a baritone variation of Karl Longbottom Guitars' original Alpine design, offering a longer 28.5" scale length instead of the standard 25.5". While there is no universally defined baritone scale length, 28.5" is a popular choice when extending from a concert-scale foundation, allowing for B-to-B tuning or other lower register tunings. The longer scale length ensures that lower tunings maintain tension and playability, preserving a feel similar to standard tuning on a 25.5" scale guitar.
Retaining all the core features of the Alpine A110, the B110 remains a versatile tool for both studio recording and live performances. The slightly offset body and asymmetrical horn design provide easy access to higher frets, ensuring fluid playability across the entire neck. Additional ergonomic enhancements, such as a belly cut for comfort (whether standing or seated) and an arm chamfer, make this a lightweight and comfortable instrument.
The Baritone Advantage
Baritone guitars have long been favored by session players and artists across various genres, including country, rock, metal, and ambient music. Many guitarists who experiment with baritones find themselves approaching melodies, chords, and scales differently, unlocking new sonic landscapes that wouldn’t typically be explored on a standard-scale instrument.
Premium Tonewoods
The B110’s body is crafted from cedrela, a lightweight yet medium-density tonewood, sharing similarities with mahogany in both warm tonal character and Janka hardness rating. Every individual piece of cedrela has its own tonal nuances, making each guitar unique. Its natural reddish-brown grain is visually stunning, making it a great choice for natural finishes, while its fine texture allows for impeccable painted finishes as well.
The best hardware is used to make sure that your guitar is always at its best. Longbottom's first port of call would be a Filter’Tron style pickup for this guitar. A Filter’Tron works happily with a standard scale, but there’s a whole new level of magic unlocked with low tunings, clear, musical and articulate, a real joy to play no matter the genre. These pickups are incredibly versatile and have been used on recordings and live by some of the best players in the world. The small details add up and that's why Longbottom uses Paper In Oil Caps, CTS pots and Switchcraft jack and control switch.
